Sunday morning and we had our entrance-timed tickets for entrance to the Musee D’Orsay to see the Impressionist exhibition with over an hour to get there (it’s .7 miles away) so what could go wrong? As you would suspect, everything went wrong. Finding a taxi was impossible because all the bridges were closed for a marathon, so we decided on the Metro. We got on our train and then noticed that the station where we needed to change lines was closed in anticipation of the Olympics, so we got off at the next station and walked to The Crillion Hôtel. The doorman took pity on us and let us take one of “his” taxis to the Museum. This excursion took an hour, and we entered just on time!
As you may know, the Musée D’Orsay was a train station converted to a museum, and it is a magnificent structure. Looking through the clock upstairs are great panoramic views of Paris.
So that you can enjoy some of the paintings by Caillebotte, Degas, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, and Van Gogh without having to walk, take the metro and a taxi, I will share a few photos of the paintings.
We ended our day with dinner at Au Bourguignon du Marais with the most delicious beef bourguignon ever! And we redeemed ourselves as Metro riders with a flawless ride to and from the restaurant (we only had to take one line, so, perhaps I am overstating our abilities a bit!).
And, I now know the definition of “cruel and unusual punishment,” and that is having a cold while visiting Paris.

Merci beaucoup!
For a while I thought the cold might linger on forever, but I finally am better.
I agree with Daniele, it is a favorite museum. Having lived for a short time in Paris, I discover many delightful museums you could enjoy. Another thing to be envy about the France and in particular the Parisians.
When drifting through the various galleries in a museum like the Louvre or d’Orsay, I have come upon some amazing paintings displayed far away from the Monet, Renoir, etc. Few visitors were crowded in to view these works. What made the difference in location? Was it the work, the artist, the connection s or just plain marketing?
Thanks Donna for the tour!
